Altgeräte The Quality Assurance and Test Specifications, which form the ‘heart’ of the quality assurance scheme for fridge demanufacturing, are compiled jointly by the RAL Quality Assurance Association for the Demanufacture of Refrigeration Equipment Containing CFCs and the RAL Institute. These specifications are a comprehensive compilation of requirements that cover all stages of the demanufacturing process. With complete documentation and logging stipulated for every step, the RAL standard ensures that demanufacturing is a totally transparent process.

The primary aim of demanufacturing CFC-containing refrigerators and freezers is to recover as many hazardous substances as possible and to dispose of them in a controlled manner. In addition, high-grade secondary raw materials are retrieved which can then be reintroduced into the production cycle.

Central importance is attached to the minimum acceptable CFC recovery levels as laid down in the Quality Assurance and Test Specifications. As every gram of CFC recovered is important, the minimum standards stipulated by the RAL Quality Assurance Association are based on what is achievable using state-of-the-art recycling technology.
